A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD
1 Peter 2:9-12 Key Verse: 2:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
Read verse 9. Why does Peter affirm the believers’ new identity? (Ex 19:5-6; Dt 10:15) What is the significance of: “chosen people”? (Dt 7:7-8, Mt 22:14) Why does he add “royal” to priesthood? (1 Pe 1:7) What does “holy nation” mean? (Lev 19:2, Lev 20:7) What is special about a believer to God as Peter said in “God’s special possession”? (Rev 5:9-10) How does a believer look at oneself and each other? (Ro 12:10)
What is God’s purpose in calling all believers (9b)? Why is it important to remember who we were, and are now, regarding God’s grace of calling (10)? (Ex 20:2) How can we overcome rejection, misunderstanding and trials as we serve God’s purpose in our mission field? (Dt 20:1, Ro 1:5)
Read verse 11. Why did Peter call all believers as “Dear friends”? What did he urge them to do? (1 Pe 2:1) What kind of war a believer is being engaged in? (Ro 7:21-25)
Read verse 12. How should a believer live among unbelievers? How can believers live such good lives? What is the result of doing good deeds?
