JOY AND GLADNESS AMONG THE JEWS
Esther 8:1-10:3 (K. V.: 8:17a)
“In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating.”
What happened to Haman’s belongings and what was given to Mordecai (8:1-2)? What did Esther beg the king to do with weeping (3-6)? How was Esther’s heart like toward her own people? What authority did the king give to Esther and Mordecai (7-8)?
What royal orders were decreed in the name of King Xerxes (9-14)? What change did Mordecai and the city of Susa experience, respectively (15)? What kind of triumph did God give to His people through Esther and Mordecai (16,17)?
How were the tables turned upside down for the Jews toward their enemies (9:1-10)? What petition did Esther ask to help complete the remaining tasks toward the enemies of the Jews (11-16)? How did the Jews rest and celebrate on the fourteenth and fifteenth day of the month of Adar (17-19)?
How was Purim officially established (20-22; 29-32)? What was the response of the Jews toward this establishment of the new feast (23-27)? How is remembering and observing the days of Purim related to our observance of spiritual Thanksgiving (28)?
How high did King Xerxes exalt Mordecai (10:1-3)? Think about three main things that Mordecai did to Esther and how God was behind all those things to work for the good (2:7, 2:21-23, 4:8-14).
