Question

THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST

John 1:1-3, Col 1:15-18, 1 Ti 2:1-3 Key Verse Col 1:16

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

  1. What must a person confess about Jesus to be saved (Ro 10:9)? What is the mean of “Lord” (Lk 20:42-44; Jn 1:1-3; Col 1:15-18)? How is Lordship different from other metaphors (Mt 9:15; Jn 10:11,14, 15:14)? What does Lordship imply in a relationship with Jesus (Mt 16:16-19)?

  2. What did it mean to first century Christians to confess that Jesus is Lord (Rev 2:10)? What does it mean today, in your context?

  3. What aspects of the Lordship of Christ can you find in the Bible (Jn 1:3; Heb 2:14-15; Mt 16:27; Rev 22:12-15)? How should knowing that Jesus is Lord guide the way we live (Mt 7:21-24, 28:18-20: Mk 11:1-3)?

  4. What are some ways that we can help others accept the Lordship of Christ (Mk 16:15-16; Jn 13:34-35; Ac 2:36-41)?

  5.  What are the practical implications of living under the Lordship of Christ? Consider this in the context of personal, family, church and community life (Lk 17:10; 1 Co 6:19-20; Col 1:18; Col 3:18-4:1; 1 Ti 2:1-3).
