2. Review 13:1-2. What is the time and place of this event? What events led up to Judas’ decision to betray Jesus? (6:63-64,68-70; 12:4-6)How had Judas made himself vulnerable to the devil's work?

3. Read verses 19-21. Why is betrayal so disturbing?(21) Why did Jesus tell the disciples beforehand? What does verse 20 mean?

4. Read verses 22-25. How did the disciples respond to Jesus' announcement? What does their response show about them? About the betrayer?

5. Read verses 26-30. How did Jesus respond to John's (and Peter's) question? What did he do and what did he say to Judas? What happened when Judas took the bread? What is significant about giving and taking the bread? What did Judas do? What is the deep meaning of the writer's comment, "And it was night."

6. Read verses 31-35. What did Jesus say after Judas left? How was the Son of Man and God glorified? How did he address the disciples? Where was he going?

7. What his new command? Why is it new? What kind of love must we have for one another? What is the mark of a disciple of Jesus? Why is it harder to love our fellow disciples than it is to love our sheep?

8. What was Peter's reaction to Jesus’ words? What did Jesus promise? What was Peter's bold declaration and Jesus' prophesy? What was the difference in Peter and Judas? How did Jesus love Peter (and Judas) to the end?
